Easter Books, New Honours Reader Program

Easter weekend is over, but the reading and the learning doesn’t stop!  Here are some great recommendations to continue to help your child learn more about Jesus’ death and resurrection or just to extend the fun of the holiday a little longer. I especially love these diverse book lists.

I am launching a new version of the HHCS Honours Reader program!  Some of you might remember this program from a few years ago.  The new program will replace the format of the old one. It will have categories to work on such as classics and modern classics, various genres, and diverse books. Students who complete this challenge before they graduate will receive a special HHCS seal. If you like reading, would like to learn more about the world around you, and would like to earn an HHCS seal for your efforts, then go to Google Classroom and click on the plus+ sign button on the top right to add a class and enter this code  qru34nw. You will see all the categories with further instructions there.

Women’s History Month

We had a wonderful week last week with our Accelerated Reader celebrations.  Congratulations to all who met their AR goal!  Students had an Olympics theme this week at school, with completing the Reading Olympics Challenge, (winners to be announced at school this week) a theme-dress day as an Olympian or a person from a country in the world, learning about Olympic sports and traditions, and class campfires with delicious treats.

March is Women’s History Month and I have a lot of great resource lists to share with you.  I have a display of books related to this theme in the library at school.  I am encouraging the students to take them out and give them a try- maybe you can remind your children at home as well to try some of these books and learn something new! Wishing everyone a happy March Break- only a few more days to go!

Bell Let’s Talk Day/Social-Emotional Books, and World Read Aloud Day

Bell Let’s Talk Day was last week, so in honour of that, this week I have posted their website, as well as a slideshow I put together of social-emotional issues, including mental health.  Have a look below- you can see the preview in the post- just click on where it says Slideshow and it will take you to the full screen where you can hit your keyboard arrows to navigate through.  It has social-emotional books featured by topic as well as by favourite authors who have entire collections of books with social-emotional themes. Hope it’s helpful!
